Snowflake Software announces the launch of version 1.2 of GO Loader at the OpenGIS UK Industry day in Southampton on Monday 14th June. The new release incorporates important new functionality such as support for Oracle 10g, plug-in extensions, enhanced management and control and an impressive increase of 30% to load speed performance.
The objective of the OpenGIS UK Industry day is to promote best practice and Snowflake Software is pleased to coincide the release of the new version with the event. This new release builds on the already established reputation of GO Loader as the fastest, most reliable and most flexible translation tool for loading GML data including OS MasterMap.
Support for Oracle 10g
The new version of GO Loader has a significant performance improvement of 30% to the load speed and includes specific support for Oracle 10g. New in Oracle 10g, GO Loader v1.2 supports the ability to build spatial indices in parallel in order to further reduce indexing times when working with large amounts of spatial data such as national coverage OS MasterMap.
Interoperability
Also new in version 1.2 is the concept of GO Loader plug-ins. Plug-ins are separate from the core application and allow GO Loader to be extended to perform bespoke tasks during data load. GO Loader has always enabled the connection of multiple GIS to the same Oracle instance; however, through the use of plug-ins GO Loader version 1.2 extends this support by implementing the recently announced Interoperability Initiative via an interoperability pack.
In addition to the interoperability pack the new version of GO Loader includes numerous plug-ins to support the OS MasterMap style guide, scalable cartographic symbols and oriented text across multiple GIS from vendors such as ESRI, MapInfo, Autodesk, Intergraph and Cadcorp.
Management and Control
GO Loader guides the user through all stages of the database life cycle from modeling to maintenance. The new version incorporates an 'intelligent user-guide' which checks the integrity of the model before loading. This feature is particularly useful for users running change-only updates. Several developments for increased control have been added based on current user feedback. Increased configuration for tablespaces, partitioning and primary keys enhance the user interface and improve user productivity. Improved monitoring also provides greater control, with amongst the new features, a prediction of load completion time. Also included is extensive support for archiving with the new version providing three different archive models.
Simon Perry, Director at Snowflake Software says:
"We recognise that when evaluating translation tools, project managers are most concerned with four key issues: speed, flexibility, reliability and usability. The new GO Loader has improvements across the board and we know already that users are benefiting from faster loading with greater control. For example, using just a single processor, our tests with the new version show customers will be able to reduce load time for national coverage OS MasterMap data from 11 days down to 8. We are delighted that the fastest just got faster and better!"
